Progress in Neurology and Psychiatry
Guidelines for authors
1. The title of the article should be approximately 6-10 words (nb this may be changed, subject to the authors’ approval).
2. Authors’ full names (both first names and surnames) and qualifications/affiliations should be provided at the beginning of the document. Please include all contributors.
3. Details of position/place of work of all authors (eg Consultant Psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital, London) should be listed at the end of the article.
4. Authors are responsible for disclosing all financial and personal relationships between themselves and others that might bias their work. To prevent ambiguity, any possible conflict of interest, financial or otherwise, related to the submitted article must be clearly indicated on the manuscript.
5. Figures/Tables are welcomed, and should be cited within the text and listed at the end of the document or sent as a separate file(s). JPG or TIFF format is preferred for photos. For other artwork or patient group logos a high resolution tiff, eps or jpeg files are preferred.
6. Seek permission to publish non-original material, or give Progress in Neurology and Psychiatry the necessary information to do so (figure number, page number, title and address of publication, copyright holder’s name and address).
7. In general, review articles should be approximately 1500-2500 words, Comment and Case notes articles should be approximately 500-1000 words and Patient group editorials should be between 500-700 words long. Book and film reviews should be between 300-350 words long.
8. Within the article, main headings should be in bold, subheadings in italics.
9. Please use English spellings and SI units.
10. Use proprietary drug names only (no brand names).
11. Abbreviations should be kept to a minimum. First time write out in full with abbreviation in brackets.
12. References should be numbered in superscript in the text (after punctuation) and listed at the end of the document in Vancouver style (first three authors only), eg Brugha TS, Bebbington PE, Singleton N, et al. Trends in service use and treatment for mental disorders in adults throughout Great Britain. Br J Psychiatry 2004;185:378-84.
13. Ideally, articles should be emailed to klaight@wiley.com and attached as a Word document (.doc). If this is not possible, please post the Word document to: The Editor, Progress in Neurology and Psychiatry, John Wiley and Sons Ltd, The Atrium, Southern Gate, Chichester, West Sussex PO19 8SQ.
14. Please also include a name, postal address and email address for correspondence (will not be published). A proof will be sent prior to publication for authors’ approval.

16. In the case of Case notes articles, please confirm in writing that you have gained the consent of the patient to publish details about their case. Whenever a patient is identifiable, ensure you have written permission to publish the patient’s picture and send a copy of the written permission to Progress in Neurology and Psychiatry for our records.
